Hi, I’m Jennie.
A self-confessed perfectionist and lifelong lover of great food.
I grew up on a farm, baking the daily bread with my Mum as soon as I could stand on a chair and reach the counter. Breakfast came with warm milk and homemade butter fresh from our cows, Daisy and Ermintrude, and everything was home grown.
My parents spent days on end tending to the vegetable garden while I followed at a covert distance eating what was ripe. It wasn’t until my mid-twenties that I confessed to being the reason that their pea plants never grew any peas!
As children, my older sister and I were blessed to grow up believing that good food was normal. I remember being allowed to open up the recipe books and make whatever I wanted, I explored cakes, pastries, breads, biscuits, buns and shared the resulting deliciousness around the family table.
It is only now, looking back that I can see I was always destined to be a baker but for me, baking was just a way of life, it was as normal as riding your bike or brushing your hair.
Joining the team at the renowned Michelin Starred Winteringham Fields I discovered techniques and flavours that re-lit my passion, built knowledge and skills and transformed my farmhouse pastries into pâté a sucre, sablé Breton and pâté a choux.
I’ve gone on to win National awards and been lucky enough to make the odd cameo on live television, but at the heart of everything I do is my family and the Derbyshire countryside.
I have come back to my roots, to the simple pleasures of baking delicious things that bring people together, because that’s what it’s all about (cue the hokey cokey).
